Reading is an essential skill that forms the foundation of education. It is critical that students develop strong reading skills at an early age, as it will prepare them for success in all other subjects. Unfortunately, not all children are motivated to read, which can hinder their academic progress. This is where gamification can come in handy, making reading fun and engaging. One such gamification strategy is the Bloomseed elementary school reading program where each child is assigned a plane along a route, fueled by the number of books read.

The reading program is designed to motivate students to read more books by making it a fun and interactive activity. Each child is assigned a plane that travels along a route, with the goal of reaching the finish line before their classmates. The plane is fueled by the number of books read by the student, with each book contributing to the plane’s fuel tank. To go from one stop to another takes only five books! The more books a student reads, the faster their plane travels towards the finish line.

The program is designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing for various reading levels and interests. Each student is given a reading goal based on their current reading level and is encouraged to read books that interest them. This makes the program more personalized and engaging, as students are more likely to read books that they find interesting.

To keep the program engaging, students can earn rewards for reaching certain milestones, such as reading a certain number of books or reaching a particular checkpoint on the route. The rewards can be anything from small prizes to recognition in front of their peers, providing students with a sense of accomplishment and motivation to keep reading.

In addition to motivating students to read more, the program also promotes healthy competition and teamwork. Students are encouraged to work together and support each other, as the success of the entire class is dependent on the progress of each individual student. This can help to foster a sense of community and belonging among students, which is critical for their social and emotional development.

So join us on the bloomseed reading plane as we travel from Ghana to Lagos!
